space high over Eve (400 km - SOI limit) space high over Moho (80 km - SOI limit) space high above Minmus (30 km - SOI limit) space high above Mün (60 km - SOI limit) space high above Kerbin (250 km - SOI limit) Once you're high above the planetary body, there are no known (!) discinctions, except when orbiting high above Minmus, where the regions are still detectable.Ītmosphere measurements are available only when the craft is on a suborbital trajectory. east farside crater (two coordinates given by the users, please check which one is correct: 6° 31' N, 209° 38' E, or 16° S, 83° E)Įach is accessible from low orbit, too, and then it becomes a new "place". (based on users' accounts, probably quite messy and because of that subjected to constant change and refinement) It's better not to reveal what the goo or science bay do in each situation. Try to remember the proper names from the dialog boxes. Keep it short and simple to avoid cluttering with unnecessary posts. Let's report these places where experiments can be made. I've got only 2 functional probes, so I can't claim that's all there is. Mün also has high and low orbit, and surface. I've been jumping with the same probe around for an hour.Ĭyan-green smooth terrain, pistachio-green plateaus, even the dirty parts (screenshot), it all seems to be one biome, unlike Kerbin. Regardless of the landing spot, the messages are the same.

I've sent a probe to Minmus and, except the high and low orbit, there's the surface, and that's it. (beware - these are not official names of the places you see written in the experiment dialog boxes) There are highlands, too (high mountains without snow). Also, north polar ice and sea near the KSC. So far I've seen the deserts of Kerbin, island muddy dirt, regular dirt around the KSC and the launch pad char+goo. There are few stages of Kerbin's atmosphere. Canyon biomes extend off a few major craters. There are several biomes on Kerbin, and if you go to orbit, you've got low orbit, high orbit and maybe more, I can't remember. Most of the surface area belongs to the Midlands biome followed by the Highlands. The Mun has the largest amount of biomes in the Kerbol System. The biggest moon of Kerbin, called the Mun, has a total of 17 biomes, 7 of which are uniquely named major craters. ↑ The South Complex location biome is only accessible with a second-level VAB, making the science available there missable content.↑ In career mode, the Astronaut Complex location biome is available with a first-level building if in contact with the structure, or anywhere on its hex after the first upgrade. To access each per-structure biome, your craft needs to be touching each new building. Notes: While the per-area biomes are available from the start of a new career game, the per-structure biomes will not be found until each facility is upgraded once or twice. With versions 1.2 and 1.2.1, biome maps were slightly overhauled and new biomes were added setting the total count of biomes to 145. However, this was just the effect of the situation "SrfSplashed" for a splashdown versus the usual "SrfLanded" surface landing. Jool's moon Laythe and the planet Eve have bodies of water and science activities performed in them stated as being from "Laythe's oceans" and "Eve's oceans". Before that only the Kerbin system - Kerbin, Mun and Minmus - had biomes. With version 0.90 biomes were added to all celestial bodies which have a solid surface, which excepts Jool and the Sun. For example, after performing an EVA Report at Kerbin's north polar IceCap biome, performing one from the southern IceCap gives the same results (and Science Points) as if it had been performed a second time in the northern IceCap.

For details and tips on how to get as much Science as possible from exploring biomes (and where to find water in a Mountain biome, for example), see the Science Tutorial.Īreas belonging to a biome may be geographically separate, but they're not considered different areas. In Sandbox, even the text descriptions from experiments are unavailable, rendering biomes unimportant except for determining ore yield. The results of science activities often differ when performed in different biomes, and thus provide more opportunities to earn Science Points in Career Mode to research further along the technology tree. This is in contrast to the real meaning of the term in which biomes are biotic communities in contiguous areas with similar climatic conditions and organism populations. In Kerbal Space Program a biome is a geographic area on the surface of a celestial body typically corresponding with types of geology like mountains or craters.
